“Friends don’t spy; true friendship is about privacy, too”: Gujarat Court sentences life imprisonment to Sirajuddin Fakir, Ayub Shaikh and Naushad for spying for Pakistan's ISI, says "those staying here and spying for Pak should voluntarily leave India"
In a landmark ruling that has left the nation brimming with pride, a city sessions court in Gujarat has sentenced three individuals to life imprisonment for their involvement in espionage activities on behalf of Pakistan's notorious intelligence agency, the ISI. This historic decision sends a strong message to those who dare to undermine our great nation's security and betray the trust of its people.

The Additional Principal Judge, Ambalal R Patel, presiding over the case, left no room for doubt regarding the seriousness of the crimes committed by the accused. The judge emphatically stated that those who engage in anti-national activities have no place in our country and should either leave voluntarily or be extradited to Pakistan by the government. Such individuals pose a significant threat to our nation's well-being and must face the consequences of their actions.
The three individuals, namely Sirajuddin Karmatali Fakir (also known as Raju), Md Ayub Shaikh (alias Sakir), and Naushad Maksudali Saiyed, were found guilty under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including waging war against the government, conspiracy to commit offenses punishable under such sections, concealing information to facilitate acts of war, and criminal conspiracy. These charges reflect the severity of their crimes and the grave harm they intended to inflict upon our beloved nation.
The origins of this case trace back to 2012 when the Ahmedabad crime branch apprehended the trio for transmitting classified military information to a Pakistani Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agent. The agent, known as Taimur, and another individual named Tahir, were identified as the recipients of the sensitive data. The crime branch's investigation uncovered that Sirajuddin and Ayub had traveled to Karachi, Pakistan in 2007, where they established contact with Taimur. During their stay, they received training on secure information transmission methods and conducted reconnaissance of defense installations in Rajasthan, Kutch, Gandhinagar, and Ahmedabad.
To facilitate their clandestine activities, the convicted spies created email accounts and shared the passwords with their Pakistani handlers. They communicated through coded language, saving crucial information as drafts, which their handlers would access later. One piece of evidence discovered by the police was a white paper sheet with the inscription, "Bhai Mai Thik Hoon... 085 Wale Mamu Ke Bachche Warmer Se Aa Gaye Hain... Hawai Wale Mamu Ke Bachche... 318 Naye Bharti Huye Hain," which loosely translates to significant military-related updates. The investigation revealed that 'Mamu' was a codeword for the military, '085' referred to the Gandhinagar military camp, and 'Anda' (eggs) symbolized money. The spies received monthly payments ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 8,000, delivered through channels in locations like Dubai. This covert operation persisted from 2010 to 2012 until their arrest, highlighting the audacity and dedication with which they carried out their illicit activities.

During the trial, the accused failed to provide a plausible explanation for the incriminating message they exchanged: "Panch Hazaar Ande Bhijva Dena" (Send five thousand eggs). It was evident to the court that this message had no connection to avian eggs but likely involved a different form of currency. Moreover, the accused were unable to account for the source of the money they received, further cementing their guilt.
The judgement issued by the court captured the gravity of the spies' actions, emphasizing the immense risks they posed to our nation's unity, integrity, safety, and sovereignty. Their treacherous collaboration with ISI agents in Pakistan showed a complete disregard for the well-being of our 1.4 billion citizens. The court unequivocally stated that those who engage in spying activities for Pakistan while residing in our great land should either leave voluntarily or be brought to justice and extradited to Pakistan by the government.
The ruling serves as a beacon of hope for the nation, instilling a renewed sense of pride and reaffirming the importance of safeguarding our country's interests. The judgement rightly recognizes that leniency towards anti-national activities only perpetuates further harm to our society. Therefore, it is crucial to hold the accused accountable and impose the maximum punishment prescribed by law, ensuring the interests, sovereignty, integrity, and security of our nation remain uncompromised.
As we celebrate this monumental verdict, we must acknowledge the tireless efforts of the defense lawyers who tirelessly fought for their clients. While Sirajuddin has remained in jail since his arrest in 2012, the other two accused had been out on bail. Their legal representatives' dedication to upholding justice throughout the trial process is commendable.
This ruling sets a precedent, sending a clear and resounding message to anyone who harbors ill intentions towards our great nation. It reinforces our shared commitment to preserving the unity and security of India, evoking a sense of excitement and patriotic pride among all citizens. Let this be a testament to our unwavering dedication to safeguarding our country and its glorious future.
