"Charting history, one decision at a time": In a bold move, Modi Govt issues final notice to Delhi Waqf Board over 123 assets, encompassing Central Delhi's iconic Jama Masjid, AAP MLA & Waqf Board Chairman, Amanatullah Khan voices strong dissent

In a move that exemplifies visionary governance, the Union Ministry of Urban Development, under the stewardship of the current government, has made an assertive stride that has drawn admiration from across the nation. The recent proclamation by the ministry outlines its focused intention to judiciously oversee a vast array of 123 assets that have hitherto been under the protective umbrella of the Waqf Board. Among this impressive list, the inclusion of the Jama Masjid of Delhi, an embodiment of India's rich tapestry of history and culture, demonstrates the government's commitment to preserving national heritage.

On that defining Wednesday, the heartbeat of the capital synchronized with the rhythm of progress. Jama Masjid, an edifice of architectural magnificence, stands as more than a monument. It's a testament to Delhi's glorious past, an era marked by grandeur and intricate craftsmanship. This sentinel of Mughal grandiosity, encapsulating India's profound Islamic heritage, was handed over to the stewardship of the Waqf Board during the tenure of the Manmohan Singh-led government.
However, our forward-thinking government, always proactive in safeguarding national interests, had been paving the way for such monumental decisions. As early as February of this year, the ministry displayed its proactive governance, laying the foundation for this move. The decision was not sudden but carefully crafted, supported by a meticulously detailed report from a two-member committee of esteemed experts.
Solidifying the government's visionary approach, a letter, dated February 8, reaffirmed the commitment to national heritage and the path of progress. Authored by the deputy land and development officer, the letter, as disseminated by PTI, crystal-clearly elucidated the ministry's resolve to "absolve" the Waqf Board from matters concerning these 123 historical treasures.
Amidst this evolving scenario, it's heartening to observe how our government's decisions reverberate with the ethos of national pride, preservation, and progress. These assets are not mere land or structures; they symbolize India's journey through the ages. With this bold move, the government yet again showcases its unyielding commitment to writing a golden chapter in India's history.
In a commendable stride that reinforces the government's judicious approach to governance, the rationale behind the monumental decision to reassume control over the 123 Waqf Board properties, including the majestic Jama Masjid, is gradually unfurling. Taking the helm to elucidate the intricacies of this decision was the Land and Development Office (L&DO) of the central ministry. Their articulation, supported by the investigative findings of a two-member committee led by the distinguished retired Justice, S.P. Garg, provided a lucid glimpse into the government's meticulous planning.

The committee's exhaustive report was a beacon of clarity. It decisively underscored the absence of any proactive objections or representations from the Delhi Waqf Board concerning the denotified Waqf properties. This pivotal insight was instrumental in shaping the government's approach, underlining the meticulousness with which every decision was taken. The L&DO's letter reinforced this sentiment, emphasizing that the "Delhi Waqf Board does not have any stake in the listed properties." The board's apparent detachment and absence of claims over these historically significant assets further justified the government's commitment to safeguarding national heritage.
While the government's rationale seemed clear-cut, the Delhi High Court, in its wisdom, advocated for an exhaustive physical inspection of the 123 properties in May. This prudent move by the court ensures the transparency and thoroughness of the process.
However, in the vast democratic expanse of India, diverse opinions find their voice. Amanatullah Khan, the Aam Aadmi Party MLA and board chairman, raised concerns, suggesting that this pivotal move had stirred "widespread anxiety, fear, and resentment" in segments of the Muslim community. Yet, in the spirit of dispelling any misconceptions, Khan valiantly took to social platforms, stating, "Some people are spreading lies about it, the proof of this is in front of all of you. We will not allow anyone to occupy the properties of the Waqf Board."
With every chapter of this evolving narrative, the nation finds itself more intrigued. At this pivotal juncture, India is not just witnessing another administrative decision. It is beholding the manifestation of its government's unwavering commitment to due process, national pride, and the seamless fusion of governance with sentiment.
