New Delhi: In a distressing incident in Delhi, a man has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping and sexually harassing an eight-year-old girl. According to police reports, the man took the girl from her neighborhood and subjected her to hours of severe mistreatment. He kept her locked for 24 hours, raped her brutally several times and had bitten her body all over the places. The police noted that "the ordeal left her body scarred with injuries inflicted by the harasser's teeth in multiple places."

The individual accused of these heinous acts resides in Mehrauli. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (South), Ankit Chauhan, detailed the sequence of events, stating that "on May 6 at three o'clock in the afternoon, information about the kidnapping was received at the PCR." He further noted that "it was reported that an 8-year-old innocent girl was kidnapped from the Kotla Mubarakpur police station area." In response, a team of police officers was swiftly dispatched to the scene.

Fortunately, the efforts of the police were successful, and they managed to rescue the child approximately 24 hours after the abduction. "The child was abducted from the Kotla Mubarakpur area on May 6 and rescued nearly 24 hours later by the cops," the police confirmed.

Following the rescue operation, the young girl was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention. She is currently being treated there. While her physical health has been stabilized, she is still grappling with the severe psychological impacts of her ordeal. The child, originally from Nepal, has been deeply traumatized and currently only recognizes her mother from her family.

In response to the situation, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) detailed the actions taken by law enforcement. "The DCP said that on the complaint of the family, a case under section 363 (kidnapping) has been registered in this case." He emphasized that the police have conducted extensive interviews with the girl’s family and relatives as part of their investigation. "The police team was investigating from all angles," he added, indicating the comprehensive nature of the inquiry.

A breakthrough came when the police team reviewed CCTV footage from the area surrounding the incident. "During the examination of the CCTV footage, the police got some virtual clues," the DCP revealed. This analysis led to the identification of a potential suspect, as "the police observed that a suspicious person was roaming in that area." This clue has become a critical lead in the investigation, which remains ongoing as authorities work diligently to bring justice in this harrowing case and ensure the safety of the community.

The man apprehended in connection with this appalling crime has been identified as Arjun, but his actual identity is Mohammed Umar. Authorities believe that he has previously engaged in similar criminal activities. On the afternoon of May 6, it is alleged that he enticed the young girl to follow him to his home, located in the poorly lit alleys of Andheria Mod. Thanks to the prompt and decisive actions of the police, the girl was rescued, and Arjun was arrested shortly thereafter.

Police sources have shared insights into the accused's psychological profile, suggesting that he displays traits consistent with a psychopathic personality and generally leads an isolated lifestyle. In the ongoing investigation, CCTV footage has proven to be of immense value. This footage has provided essential leads, aiding investigators in piecing together the events of that day and establishing a stronger case against the suspect. The case continues to develop as more information comes to light, with the community hoping for swift justice to prevent any future incidents.

The investigative efforts intensified with a thorough examination of CCTV cameras strategically positioned in various locations including Babu Park, Uday Chand Marg, Kotla Mubarakpur, Gurudwara Road, South Extension-1, Pilanji Village, among others. These efforts revealed that the suspect had been moving from the South Extension-1 bus stop. The police then extended their surveillance to include more cameras on DTC buses in an attempt to securely identify the suspect.

Following these actions, the police took additional steps to enhance the effectiveness of their search. "We checked CCTV footage of DTC buses to identify the accused. The details of the kidnapped girl were uploaded on ZIPNET (the networking system of police of adjoining states),” explained Deputy Commissioner of Police (South), Ankit Chauhan. ZIPNET, a crucial tool in police investigations, facilitates rapid information sharing across state lines, which proved instrumental in this case.

The diligent work of the police bore fruit when "the police arrested Umar from the slum area of Andheria Mod on Tuesday and the girl was rescued," as stated by DCP Chauhan. This arrest marked a significant breakthrough in the case, bringing a measure of relief to the community and the victim's family. The ongoing commitment of the police to utilizing advanced technology and cooperative networks continues to be pivotal in resolving such distressing incidents.

During the interrogation, Umar admitted to his crimes and disclosed his reasons for the abduction. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (South), Ankit Chauhan, "Umar revealed that he crafts small toys of glass and had come to Kotla to collect glass where he noticed the girl playing and he kidnapped her." This statement provides a chilling insight into the opportunistic nature of the abduction, highlighting the vulnerability of children in public spaces.

After her ordeal, the young girl was safely returned to her family. "The girl has been handed over to her relatives and sent for medical examination," added DCP Chauhan. This step is crucial not only for assessing her physical well-being but also for beginning the process of psychological recovery, ensuring that she receives the necessary support and care after such a traumatic experience.

The harrowing incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers that can lurk in everyday settings and underscores the importance of vigilance in the protection of our children. To safeguard our daughters and all young children, it is essential for Hindu communities to foster a safe environment. This can be achieved through several measures:

  1. Enhancing Community Awareness: Regular Hindu community meetings to raise awareness about child safety and the importance of monitoring unfamiliar activities in neighborhoods.
  2. Improving Surveillance: Installation of more CCTV cameras in strategic locations such as parks, residential areas, and routes children frequently use to travel to and from school.
  3. Educating Children: Teaching children about safety, including the importance of not talking to strangers, recognizing unsafe situations, and knowing how to seek help if needed.
  4. Strengthening Police Networking: Continuous updating and maintenance of systems like ZIPNET to ensure swift sharing of information across state lines, which is crucial for quick response in abduction cases.

These combined efforts can significantly contribute to creating a safer environment for children, ultimately protecting them from potential threats and ensuring their well-being in public spaces.
