"हे हिंदुत्वादी सरकार आहे! इथे उगाचे लाड चालत नाहीत ": In a bold crackdown on land jihad, BJP MLA Nitish Rane highlights an illegal mazar on Maharashtra's highway in the state assembly, prompting immediate demolition, assuring lawful use of public spaces
In Maharashtra, an incident that captures the state's firm stance against illegal encroachments unfolded on the Manmad Chandwad Highway in Nashik. An unauthorized Mazar (Islamic shrine), which had been constructed along this vital roadway, was dismantled during the night spanning the 1st and 2nd of March. The operation was marked by heightened security, with a considerable deployment of police forces to oversee the process and ensure everything went smoothly.

This decisive action was precipitated by the efforts of Bharatiya Janata Party MLA and spokesperson, Nitesh Rane. Demonstrating his commitment to addressing issues of illegal construction and encroachment, Rane had earlier raised this specific case in the legislative assembly. He didn't just stop there; he also brought visual evidence of the illegal structure into the premises of Vidhan Bhavan, showcasing the seriousness of the encroachment. Following this, he took to social media to share news of the demolition, emphasizing the government's stance with a powerful statement: "This is a Hindutva government. It won’t cater to anyone’s unreasonable demands. Keep this in mind."
The removal of the unauthorized shrine is more than just an isolated event. It signifies the government's resolve to uphold the law and maintain order, ensuring that public spaces, especially critical infrastructure like national highways, are free from unauthorized constructions.
Nitish Rane, demonstrating a firm resolve against unauthorized constructions on public infrastructure, had previously made a significant pledge. He vowed to initiate the construction of a Hanuman temple adjacent to the contested mausoleum situated in the center of the roadway, should it remain undemolished. This bold statement came to light during a press conference held on the 29th of February, where Rane showcased several photographs of the shrine in question. These images served as evidence of the shrine's existence and the activities surrounding it, including the claim that a cleric from Malegaon had been specifically brought in to establish the shrine and conduct rituals, such as offering flowers.

Rane's allegations extended beyond the mere presence of the shrine; he implicated an official from the Highways Authority, identified as Salunkhe, accusing him of accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000. This payment was allegedly in exchange for assistance in erecting the shrine on the highway. The gravity of the situation prompted Rane to escalate the issue to Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways of India, highlighting the need for immediate and decisive action against such illegal encroachments.
In his discourse, Rane articulated a clear stance on the matter, emphasizing the inappropriateness of constructing illicit shrines on national highways, particularly in India. He contrasted the situation with numerous Hindu temples along national highways across Maharashtra and the entire nation, noting that Hindu communities have historically relocated holy sites to alternative locations in a peaceful manner to accommodate infrastructure development. However, he pointed out that some radical elements continue to erect mausoleums along these vital roadways, attributing this trend to the politics of appeasement.
Nitesh Rane had previously issued a strong warning, suggesting a unique form of protest to highlight the seriousness of unauthorized constructions on public property. He declared his intention to initiate the construction of a Hanuman temple adjacent to the mausoleum situated in the middle of the roadway, should the illegal shrine not be demolished. This statement was made during a press conference held on February 29th, where Rane presented several images of the shrine. He accused that a cleric from Malegaon was specifically brought in to consecrate the shrine and perform rituals. Further intensifying his claims, Rane alleged that an official from the Highways Authority, identified as Salunkhe, had accepted a bribe of Rs 20,000 to facilitate the construction of this unauthorized shrine. These allegations were not just voiced in public forums; Rane took the additional step of reporting the matter to Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways of India, showcasing his commitment to rectifying this issue.

Rane's assertions were deeply rooted in national pride and the rule of law. He emphatically stated, "This is India and not Pakistan where an illicit shrine can be constructed on a national highway and such activities won’t be tolerated." He contrasted the situation with the respectful relocation of numerous Hindu temples that were along the paths of national highways being constructed across Maharashtra and the nation. According to Rane, Hindus have peacefully moved their holy places to alternate locations. However, he pointed out a concerning trend where some radical elements have started erecting mausoleums alongside national highways, attributing this to appeasement politics. His commentary not only highlighted a specific instance of unauthorized construction but also touched upon broader themes of religious harmony, legal adherence, and the impacts of political policies on societal norms.
In a follow-up to his earlier statements and actions, Rane articulated the potential consequences of leaving the shrine untouched. He warned, "Muslims will now gather at the shrine to perform prayers on the national highway. A large number of people will congregate there daily, raising safety concerns. In this situation, Hindus will also invite sages from Ayodhya to build a temple and conduct worship there if the illegal building is not removed."
Additionally, Rane informed that he had lodged a complaint with the relevant authorities and had plans to meet with Nitin Gadkari to discuss the issue further. The culmination of these efforts was the dismantling of the unlawful construction by the state administration, a move that validated Rane's concerns and underscored the government's stance on unauthorized constructions and the importance of maintaining public safety and order.
