"ॐ तत्पुरुषाय विद्महे महादेवाय धीमहितन्नो रुद्रः प्रचोदयात्": Ancients raising again - A dream helped in discovery of 1000 year old massive 6ft Shivalingam on auspicious day of Deepavali at Arasampalayam, TN near sangam of Amaravathy & Kudakunaaru rivers

A 1000-year-old Shivalingam has been unearthed in Tamil Nadu reportedly through a dream of a devotee. Hindus of the locality were elated as the murti revealed itself on Deepavali day. Shiva bhaktas thronged the place as the news spread like wildfire and pujas were performed to the ancient Lingam.

Kandasamy, a farmer living in a village near Aravakurichi, Karur is said to have received a divine intervention in the form of a dream. He reportedly dreamt about a Shiva Lingam being buried under the earth in his ancestral land. Media reports say that there was a Shiva temple in the land centuries ago and it went under the earth due to reasons unknown.
The message that there was a temple in the ancestral land was passed down through generations and the family kept performing pujas despite not knowing where the temple existed. After Kandasamy had the dream he discussed it with Sivanadiyars in the neighborhood and with their help dug up the land. The five feet tall Shiva Linga with its base was found along with the murti of Nandi Bhagwan.

As this happened on the day of Deepavali, Hindus were elated and thronged the place to offer worship and do pujas to the Lingam and Nandi.
A bogline machine was used to excavate the 1000-year-old five-foot-tall Shivalinga with a matching pedestal. Following this, Sivanadiyars and devotees from the neighboring area flocked to the site to worship the Shivalingam. They cleansed the Lingam with water and worshipped it with special pujas using milk, fresh water, turmeric, sandalwood, and perfumes.
Revenue and Archeology officers were informed as per the procedure. On receiving information, Aravakurichi Tahsildar, other Revenue officials, and Archeology Department officials rushed to the spot and recovered the Shivalingam idol from the locals, and proceeded with their investigation and the murtis have been taken away for evaluation and research.

According to the archaeological department, the recovered Shivalingam was part of an ancient Shiva temple on the banks of the Amaravati River, where the Amaravati and Kudakanaaru rivers meet. They also said that the temple may have been destroyed centuries ago by a flood in the river.
Hopefully, they are returned soon and get worshipped as per devotees’ wishes.
