"तबलीग़ी जमात": A victory rally in Mhow celebrating India's Champions Trophy win turned violent as a Muslim mob pelted stones, torched vehicles, and injured four; police arrested 13, registered FIRs, and invoked the NSA, assuring strict action

Mhow, MP: Muslim Mob Attacks Fans Celebrating India’s Cricket Victory; Pelt Stones, Burn Vehicles

India's cricket team delivered a stunning performance on March 10, defeating New Zealand in the final and securing the prestigious Champions Trophy title. Across the country, jubilant fans took to the streets, celebrating a moment of national pride. However, while millions of Indians rejoiced, the victory appeared to have enraged certain groups. The pattern was once again evident—whenever India triumphs, certain elements within society refuse to acknowledge the glory and instead resort to hostility.

In a disturbing incident, a Muslim mob unleashed violence on cricket fans who were part of a celebratory rally near Jama Masjid in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh. The innocent fans, basking in India's hard-earned victory, were met with a vicious attack. The mob, acting in a premeditated and organized manner, pelted stones at the unsuspecting revelers. The situation quickly escalated as the enraged Islamist miscreants resorted to arson, setting two vehicles and two shops on fire in a blatant display of lawlessness.

According to reports, the rally was moving through the Jama Masjid locality when local Islamists initiated an unprovoked attack. In a matter of moments, stones rained down on the rally participants, forcing many to abandon their vehicles in fear. The sudden violence turned the festive atmosphere into one of chaos and panic. Several individuals, taken aback by the attack, had no choice but to flee the scene, leaving behind their motorcycles and belongings.

As the unrest escalated, the police were called in to bring the situation under control. Given the intensity of the violence, heavy police deployment was required, with reinforcements arriving from Indore rural and Indore city. The law enforcement agencies swiftly moved in to disperse the rioters and prevent further destruction.

In the aftermath of the violence, authorities assured the public that order had been restored. Indore Rural SP Hitika Vasal addressed the media, stating,

“Tension erupted between two sides, leading to incidents of violence. The incident took place after Team India’s victory celebrations. The situation is now completely under control. I urge people not to believe in fake news. Adequate police forces are patrolling the area, and a thorough investigation is underway. Those responsible for the violence will be punished accordingly.”

Her statement underscored the administration’s efforts to ensure peace while assuring citizens that those behind the attack would face due consequences.

Indore Collector Ashish Singh also reinforced this, saying,

“The situation is under control, and security forces have been deployed. The exact cause of the clashes will be determined after investigation.”

The presence of security personnel in Mhow, a military cantonment, played a significant role in containing the violence. Although the area already houses stationed army personnel, no separate military deployment was deemed necessary at this stage. As per initial reports, at least three individuals sustained injuries during the clashes. The police have vowed strict legal action against the perpetrators, ensuring that those responsible for the disorder do not escape justice.

The pattern of such incidents has become increasingly evident over the years. Time and again, celebrations of India’s victories are met with hostility from radical elements who seemingly harbor allegiance elsewhere. While some groups continue to push the romanticized narrative of unity, proclaiming,

“Sabka khoon shamil hai desh ki mitthi me, kisi ke baap ka Hindustan thodi hai” (Rough translation: Everyone sacrificed for the country’s freedom and independence.)

the ground reality starkly contradicts this notion. From the prestigious universities of Jammu & Kashmir to Islamic-dominated localities, the trend of openly celebrating India’s losses and Pakistan’s victories has been glaring. In contrast, silence and vengeful attacks following India’s sporting triumphs have become alarmingly frequent.

With this latest attack in Mhow, once again, questions arise—why do such violent reactions repeatedly occur within specific segments of society? Why do celebrations of India’s achievements provoke rage and destruction? While the investigation continues, one undeniable truth remains—this is not an isolated incident but part of a growing and disturbing pattern that cannot be ignored.

Authorities must act with an iron hand against those who disrupt national harmony. The people of India have the right to celebrate their nation's victories without fear of violence. The law must ensure that such deliberate acts of hostility are met with the strongest possible punishment, sending a clear message that attacks on India’s unity and pride will not be tolerated.

13 Held for Violence in MP's Mhow After Stone-Pelting at Champions Trophy Victory Rally

In a significant development following the violent clashes in Madhya Pradesh's Mhow, thirteen individuals have been arrested in connection with the attacks on a rally celebrating India’s victory in the ICC Champions Trophy final, officials confirmed on Monday. The celebratory event, which was meant to be a moment of national pride, turned into a scene of chaos and violence as stone-pelting and arson ensued.

According to Indore Collector Ashish Singh, the unrest, which erupted late Sunday night, resulted in four people suffering injuries. The authorities have confirmed that five separate incidents of violence were reported across different parts of Mhow town, located in Indore district. The violence was not random but a deliberate act, as three cars and several two-wheelers were attacked and set on fire, reflecting the organized nature of the disruption.

In an official statement, Collector Ashish Singh provided updates on the situation, confirming that law enforcement agencies have arrested 13 individuals so far on charges of indulging in arson and violence. He reassured the public that the situation in Mhow was now under control, emphasizing that swift police action helped prevent further escalation.

"Peace is restored in the area at present. Nobody will be spared and stringent action will be taken against those responsible for it (violence)," the collector firmly stated.

The authorities wasted no time in responding to the violence. As soon as reports of stone-pelting and arson emerged, the police swiftly reached the troubled area and worked to restore order. Their prompt intervention helped contain the damage and ensured that the violence did not spread further.

To ensure that those responsible face strict consequences, law enforcement has registered an FIR against the arrested individuals. Furthermore, action under the stringent National Security Act (NSA) will be taken against some of the accused, highlighting the seriousness of the offense. The NSA allows authorities to detain individuals deemed a threat to national security—a clear indication that the government is treating this attack with the gravity it deserves.

As investigations continue, the collector also confirmed that additional FIRs will be lodged based on eyewitness accounts and available evidence. Authorities are currently reviewing video footage that has surfaced from the incident, which will be used to identify more perpetrators and bring them to justice.

Alongside legal action, officials have also issued a strict warning against those spreading misinformation or inflammatory content on social media. The collector urged citizens to refrain from engaging in rumor-mongering, stating that "action will be taken against those indulging in such acts." This move comes amid concerns that false narratives could be used to inflame communal tensions or mislead the public about the true nature of the violence.

When asked about the cause of the violence, Collector Ashish Singh explained that the conflict originated near a mosque, where an altercation broke out between two groups during the rally. He noted that what began as a verbal dispute quickly turned physical, leading to stone-pelting and retaliatory violence.

This incident, once again, raises serious questions about the repeated targeting of celebrations linked to India’s national achievements. While fans took to the streets across the country in patriotic celebration, certain radical elements turned to violence—a pattern that has become alarmingly common in recent years. The authorities’ firm stance and quick arrests indicate that this time, the perpetrators will not walk away without facing consequences.

As authorities delve deeper into the Mhow violence case, initial reports suggest that the clashes erupted over a dispute concerning the bursting of firecrackers during the celebratory rally. The procession was taken out from multiple areas, but tensions flared when one group got into a heated disagreement with others, according to the preliminary investigation. Officials have stated that a detailed probe is underway to determine the exact sequence of events and identify all those responsible for the unrest.

Providing further updates, Mhow Police Station in-charge Rahul Sharma confirmed that three cars and nearly a dozen two-wheelers were targeted by the mob and set on fire during the violent outbreak. The scale of destruction underscores the intensity of the arson and vandalism that took place.

Authorities are currently investigating five separate incidents that unfolded in Taal Mohalla, Sewa Marg, Patti Bazar, Manek Chowk, and the Jama Masjid area. These locations, spread across different parts of Mhow, saw rampant stone-pelting, destruction of property, and targeted arson, leading to widespread panic among residents.

In an effort to track down the culprits, law enforcement officials have begun examining CCTV footage and videos recorded by bystanders on mobile phones. The police believe that the evidence collected from these sources will play a crucial role in identifying those involved in the violence and ensuring their prosecution.

“The entire CCTV footage and videos shot by people on mobile phones were being examined to identify those who indulged in the arson, vandalism, and stone-pelting,” the official confirmed.

To restore normalcy, a large contingent of security personnel was deployed to Mhow late Sunday night. Their presence helped to curb any further escalation of violence and prevent additional damage. Senior police officials, along with top administrative officers, rushed to Mhow, which lies 25 kilometers from the Indore district headquarters, to assess the situation firsthand and coordinate an appropriate response.

Local residents recounted how a group of young cricket fans had taken out a peaceful rally to celebrate India’s Champions Trophy victory over New Zealand. However, as the rally neared the Jama Masjid area, it faced an unexpected and violent attack.

“As they approached the Jama Masjid area, a large group of individuals allegedly began hurling stones at them, leading to chaos and forcing them to abandon their motorcycles and flee,” locals revealed.

The violence did not end with the stone-pelting. In the aftermath of the attack, several abandoned motorcycles were set ablaze, further intensifying tensions in the region. The deliberate destruction of property and orchestrated arson indicate that the violence was not spontaneous but premeditated, raising concerns about a larger underlying motive behind the attack.

Confirming the series of events, Deputy Inspector General of Police Nimish Agarwal addressed the media late on Sunday night.

“A rally was being taken out in Mhow to celebrate India’s Champions Trophy victory. During this, some people had an altercation that escalated into the two parties pelting each other with stones,” he explained.

However, local residents insist that the attack was not merely a two-sided altercation but a targeted assault on cricket fans celebrating India’s victory. The sudden outbreak of violence triggered panic across multiple areas in the town, with residents fearing further escalation.

The investigation continues as authorities gather more evidence, review video footage, and identify the miscreants responsible for the orchestrated violence. With 13 arrests already made and more FIRs expected, law enforcement is determined to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure such incidents do not recur.
