"दुराशय षड्यंत्र": In Navi Mumbai, tensions escalate as a goat intended for Bakrid is marked with 'Prabhu Shree Ram,' provoking protests from Hindus; shop owner Muhammad Shafi is detained after the incident goes viral, leading Mumbai Police to file an FIR

In anticipation of the widely celebrated Islamic festival of Eid al-Adha, also known as Bakrid, which is set to be observed this week both in India and around the globe, the government and local authorities have issued guidelines urging the public to practice their religious rites respectfully and without infringing upon the rights of others. Despite these instructions, a controversial event has surfaced in Mumbai that has sparked significant unrest among the Hindu community. A goat, which was slated for ritual sacrifice as part of Bakrid celebrations, was found with the sacred Hindu name "Ram" marked on its back.
|
This incident occurred in the bustling Navi Mumbai area, specifically at the "Goodluck Goat Meat Shop" located in the Central Business District of Belapur. The shop is owned by Muhammad Shafi, whose name prominently appears on the store’s signboard. The issue came to light on June 15th when members of a local Hindu organization visited the shop. They discovered a white goat with the word "Ram" visibly painted in yellow on its fur. Shocked by what they saw, they recorded the incident and shared the video on social media, which quickly spread across various platforms.
Responding swiftly to the situation, the concerned authorities were alerted by these organization members. The officials then proceeded to detain the goat, ensuring it was taken into safe custody following the uproar caused by the video.
Following the controversial incident at the "Goodluck Goat Meat Shop" in Navi Mumbai, a prominent animal welfare organization, Gau Gyan Foundation, has taken to social media to voice its strong objections and demands. Through its official Twitter handle, @gaugyan, the organization expressed its deep concern over the event, describing it as a deliberate attempt to provoke and insult the Hindu community.
|
The tweet from the Gau Gyan Foundation highlighted the severity of the issue, stating: "Deliberately outraging and hurting #Hindus' sentiments, with the intent to incite communal violence, miscreants write '#RAM' on goat headed for sacrifice on Bakri Eid at 'Good Luck Mutton Store' in CBD Belapur PS." The foundation called upon the Navi Mumbai Police, urging them to "register an FIR against those involved, and immediately take the concerned persons in custody." This appeal emphasizes the perceived gravity of the situation and the potential for it to escalate into violence.
|
Furthermore, the foundation's tweet also demanded the immediate rescue of the goat in question along with other animals from the premises, citing legal requirements regarding animal slaughter. "Also requesting for rescue of the goat as no #slaughter can take place outside licensed slaughterhouses as per law," they noted, adding a request for the "immediate seizure of all goats owned by the 'Good Luck Mutton Store' and closure of the associated slaughterhouse immediately."
|
The incident was escalated significantly, as depicted in recent footage that shows a heated exchange between the shopkeeper, Muhammad Shafi, and members of a local Hindu group. The video captures these intense moments while law enforcement officers are seen attempting to control the situation, which has grown increasingly tense.
As the community reacts, the administration has taken decisive action against the proprietor of the mutton shop. A formal case has been lodged against him, and as a result, the store has been temporarily closed by local authorities pending further investigation and directives. This swift administrative response reflects the seriousness with which the incident is being treated, given its potential to incite further communal unrest.
On social media, the reaction has been swift and severe, with many users alongside Hindu organizations demanding stringent penalties for those involved in the controversial act. The public's call for justice is loud, underscoring the deep cultural and religious sensitivities that have been stirred by this event.
Adding to the developments, the Mumbai Police have taken formal legal steps by filing a First Information Report against the shop owner. "According to the preliminary information received, a goat with Ram’s name written on it was kept for sale at Good Luck Mutton Shop in CBD Sector One, Navi Mumbai. A complaint was registered under relevant sections of the IPC (Indian Penal Code) and police have detained the shop owner," a police official reported.
