“I am a victim of Love Jihad”: Guwahati police nabs Hamidul Islam who disguised as Jun to trap Hindu woman, duped her of lakhs, forced her to undergo abortions

In a shocking revelation that has caught the attention of many, a case unfolded in Guwahati where a woman found herself ensnared in a deceptive trap, leading to her proclaiming, "I am a victim of Love Jihad". This statement comes in the wake of her ordeal with a man she knew as Jun, who, in reality, was Hamidul Islam from Rangiya. The intricacies of their relationship, which spanned over three years, hid beneath layers of deceit, eventually leading to a profound betrayal.

The heart of this tale lies in the unsuspecting nature of the victim, who was charmed by Hamidul Islam, only to discover the harsh realities of his intentions later on. Initially meeting him under the guise of Jun, she was blissfully unaware of the financial and emotional turmoil that awaited her. The trust and affection she had fostered over the years were exploited, culminating in a scam that left her financially drained.

On the 18th of March, a Monday that would become pivotal in this narrative, the Chandmari Police made a decisive move by arresting Hamidul Islam in the bustling GS Road locality of Guwahati. This arrest was the result of allegations tied to love jihad, a term used to describe a situation where an individual is lured into a relationship under false pretenses regarding religious identity. In this case, Islam had masqueraded as a Hindu man, weaving a web of lies that would eventually ensnare a Hindu woman.

The complaint that brought this unsettling scenario to light was lodged by a woman in Guwahati, who found herself deceived by the accused. She recounted how Islam, presenting himself as a Hindu, initiated and maintained a relationship with her, leading to a betrayal that spanned beyond emotional hurt to include financial exploitation.

As the narrative of this distressing situation unfolds further, it becomes increasingly evident how deep the deceit went. Throughout their relationship, the accused, Hamidul Islam, took advantage of the trust and affection the victim had placed in him. Shockingly, this manipulation extended to the most personal and vulnerable aspects of their lives together. The victim endured not just emotional and financial exploitation but also significant physical and psychological trauma. It has been reported that she was impregnated at least five times during their relationship, each time being coerced by Hamidul Islam into undergoing an abortion.

Expressing the depth of her betrayal, the victim stated, "I feel victim to love jihad. Initially, he portrayed himself as a Hindu," highlighting the initial deception that lured her into the relationship. This revelation came as a shock to her, as the true identity of the person she had loved and trusted gradually emerged, altering the foundation of what she believed their relationship was built on.

Further exacerbating the betrayal was the financial deceit Hamidul Islam orchestrated against her. The victim suffered a financial blow, with losses amounting to a staggering Rs 12 lakh. This was not a result of a single instance of fraud but a series of schemes cleverly designed by Islam to coerce her into handing over the money, exploiting her emotionally to achieve his financial objectives.

The local police, specifically the Chandmari police, have since shed light on the situation, confirming the identity of the accused as Hamidul Islam. They reported, "The accused has been identified as Hamidul Islam. He deceived the young woman and managed to defraud her of a substantial sum amounting to 12 lakhs rupees over the course of their three-year relationship." This statement not only corroborates the victim's account of the financial exploitation she faced but also emphasizes the calculated manner in which Hamidul Islam operated to defraud her of a significant amount of money, further highlighting the severity of the deceit and manipulation she endured throughout their relationship.

In an unexpected twist to this already complex and unsettling case, it has come to light that a well-known regional YouTuber, Sunny Golden, is closely linked to the accused, Hamidul Islam, as his brother. This revelation adds a layer of notoriety to the case, given Sunny Golden's significant online presence. With a substantial following of 128,000 people on Facebook and an even more impressive 639,000 subscribers on his YouTube channel, Sunny Golden is a prominent figure in the digital sphere. Interestingly, amidst this unfolding drama, it has been noted that his Instagram page is no longer accessible, as it appears to have been deleted, leaving the public and his followers pondering the reason behind such an action.

The state of Assam, where this case has come to the forefront, is currently under the watchful eyes of its authorities, who are taking a firm stance against the menace of Love Jihad. This term, often surrounded by controversy, refers to the alleged practice of deceitfully luring individuals into relationships for conversion to Islam. The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, has been vocal about adopting a policy of zero tolerance towards Love Jihad. This case, therefore, not only draws attention due to the personal tragedy involved but also because it echoes the broader societal and political concerns being addressed in Assam.

The story of deception, manipulation, and betrayal that has emerged from Guwahati serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities individuals face in matters of the heart. It underscores the importance of vigilance and awareness in personal relationships, particularly in the context of the digital age, where identities can be obscured and intentions hidden. The case of Hamidul Islam and the victim, alongside the unexpected involvement of Sunny Golden, highlights the complexities and dangers of fraudulent schemes that prey on emotional trust. It calls for a collective effort towards increased awareness and caution to prevent such manipulative practices from causing harm to unsuspecting individuals.
