"How’s the Josh": "With 300 seats we built Ram Mandir; with 400, we'll rebuild Mathura and reclaim PoJK," vows Assam CM Himanta Sarma, advocating fiercely for Modi's third term while highlighting Congress' past inaction on Kashmir issues
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has made a bold assertion during his latest pitch for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's third term. Sarma emphasized the achievements of the BJP government, stating, "when the BJP got 300 seats, it built the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya" and projected further ambitious plans. He claimed that once the BJP secures 400 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, significant developments are expected at religious sites and in national territorial claims. Specifically, he mentioned the construction of temples at the Krishna Janmabhoomi site in Mathura and the site of the Gyanvapi Mosque in Varanasi.

In addition to religious developments, Sarma highlighted geopolitical aspirations, particularly regarding Pakistan-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). He confidently declared that PoJK would be integrated into India under Modi's leadership, contrasting this ambition with past governmental approaches. "When the Congress government was in power, we were told that one Kashmir is in India and the other in Pakistan. It was never discussed in our Parliament that Pakistan has ‘Occupied Kashmir,’ it is actually ours," Sarma criticized the previous administrations.
The Chief Minister also referenced current events in PoJK to strengthen his point, noting, "Right now, agitation is happening every day in PoK and people are protesting against Pakistan by holding the Indian tricolour in their hands." He believes that a decisive victory in the polls, yielding 400 seats for Modi, would be pivotal. "If Modi ji gets 400 seats, then PoK will also become India’s. It has already started," he added, suggesting that the groundwork for such a significant geopolitical move is already being laid.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has reiterated his support for strengthening the reservation system in India, highlighting the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) commitment to social justice. "PM Modi himself comes from the OBC category. BJP has been in power for 10 years. Our government is working to give more strength to reservations," Sarma declared, emphasizing the government’s focus on enhancing policies that benefit the socially and economically backward sections of society.
Further addressing the contentious issue of reservations, Sarma accused the Congress party of undermining the existing quota system for Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and Other Backward Classes (OBCs). He claimed, "Congress wants to end SC, ST, and OBC reservations and give reservations to Muslims which they have already started in Karnataka," suggesting a shift in policy focus that he believes could impact the integrity of the reservation system designed to empower the traditionally marginalized communities.

In the same discourse about the BJP's future plans and achievements, Sarma reinforced the party's religious and cultural agenda. He reassured that the BJP, upon securing 400 seats in the ongoing elections along with its allies, aims to advance its commitment to constructing temples at significant historical and religious sites. Specifically, he mentioned the plans for building temples at the Krishna Janmabhoomi site in Mathura and near the Gyanvapi mosque area in Varanasi, underlining these projects as key objectives for the party's next term in power.
During a recent campaign event in New Delhi, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma drew an analogy between cricket achievements and political goals to underline his party's ambitions. "Would you ask Sachin Tendulkar why he scored double and triple centuries? When we had 300 seats, we built Ram Mandir. Now, if we get 400 seats, Mathura will see the realization of Krishna Janmabhoomi. We shall replace the Gyanvapi Masjid in Varanasi with a grand temple dedicated to Baba Vishwanath. We will also be able to clean up the mess spread by the Mughals," Sarma explained, setting a high benchmark for his party's future endeavors.
In his speech, which was part of his support for BJP's East Delhi candidate Harsh Malhotra, Sarma also revisited the contentious issue of Pakistan-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). He reaffirmed his party's resolve to integrate PoJK into India, a long-standing political and territorial aspiration that has been a point of contention between India and Pakistan. "We were told during the Congress's regime that Kashmir is part of both India and Pakistan... If Modiji gets 400 seats, we will bring the PoJK to India," Sarma declared, highlighting a stark contrast between past and present government stances on the issue.

Furthermore, Sarma expressed confidence in the BJP's sweeping electoral success, humorously cautioning the opposition. "If I continue with the list of our plans with 400 seats, Congress will reach the ICU," he said, implying that the comprehensive and ambitious plans laid out by the BJP might overwhelmingly outpace the opposition's strategies.
The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is ambitiously aiming for a record third term under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with a target of winning 400 seats in this election cycle. Facing challenges from opposition parties united under the Congress-led INDIA bloc, the BJP is confident in its strategic electoral campaigns. With four of the seven phases of the Lok Sabha election already concluded, the final phase is scheduled for June 1, with results set to be announced on June 4.
In a related development, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also weighed in on the situation in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) during a statement made on Tuesday. Jaishankar reiterated India’s claim over the region, stating, "it has been India and will always be," while suggesting that the quality of life and development in Jammu and Kashmir under Indian administration is far superior to that in PoJK. He commented that people in PoJK might be observing these disparities and assessing their own situation in comparison.

Further intensifying concerns about PoJK, reports surfaced of a severe crackdown by Pakistan Paramilitary rangers. On Monday, these forces were reported to have unlawfully engaged with protestors in PoJK, resulting in tragic incidents where "several protestors [were] gunned down leaving dozens and several others severely wounded." This violent suppression has drawn significant attention, highlighting ongoing tensions and the complex geopolitical dynamics affecting the region.
In a recent surge of unrest, several thousand locals in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) took to the streets to express their grievances. The protests, fueled by a variety of economic and political frustrations, turned violent, resulting in numerous injuries among the demonstrators. The protesters were voicing their opposition to new taxes on electricity bills, cuts in subsidies, and demanding an end to the perks and privileges afforded to the Prime Minister and President.
The intensity of these demonstrations and the consequent harsh response underline the escalating tensions in PoJK. This incident, marked by significant violence and public outcry, has highlighted the ongoing strife and dissatisfaction with the current administration in the region. The injured locals are a testament to the severity of the confrontation between the protesters and the authorities.
As the world watches the unfolding events in this geopolitically sensitive region, the outcome of these protests and their impact on the broader regional dynamics remain a point of considerable concern and scrutiny.
