"तभी तो सब मोदी को चुनते हैं…": BJP initiated the strategic campaign for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections with PM Modi's focus on Western UP, tapping into the legacy of community leaders and religious tapestry of the region for a crucial electoral showdown
As India gears up for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has officially begun its campaign. This significant political move was initiated on Thursday, January 25, by party president JP Nadda in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Signaling its readiness for the upcoming general elections, the BJP unveiled a campaign video that is both a call to action and a statement of intent. Central to this launch is the two-minute and ten-second video featuring the party’s theme song, “Tabhi toh sab Modi ko chunte” (That’s why people select Modi), which articulates the widespread support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

This election song is more than just a melody; it's a narrative of progress under the Modi administration. It highlights key government initiatives such as the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), Har Ghar Nal Scheme, and Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. These initiatives represent significant steps towards development and are showcased as symbols of the government's commitment to improving the lives of its citizens.
The song also emphasizes the fulfillment of promises and the realization of a long-held dream of a developed nation. The lyrics, “Namo fulfilled his word and the goal of creating a developed nation did not stay a mere distant dream,” resonate with the aspirations of millions of Indians. They portray Prime Minister Modi as a leader who not only envisioned a prosperous future but also took concrete steps to turn this vision into reality.
The campaign video serves as a comprehensive overview of the achievements of the Narendra Modi-led BJP government during its two terms. This visual representation is designed to remind the electorate of the progress made under their governance, reinforcing the party's message of continuity and development.
Complementing the video, the BJP issued a press note about the campaign's launch. A key excerpt from the note reads, “The ‘Tabhi Toh Sab Modi Ko Chunte Hai’ campaign has emerged organically from among the people and the BJP has adopted it in tune with the mass sentiment.”
Moreover, the campaign theme aligns with the current national spirit, supplementing the 'Modi Ki Guarantee' mass movement. This synchrony with the national mood indicates the party's strategic alignment with the prevailing public sentiment, potentially enhancing its appeal to the electorate.
At the First-Time Voters Conclave (Nav Matdata Sammelan), the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) unveiled a significant component of its campaign for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. A music video released at the event skillfully showcased Prime Minister Narendra Modi's role in transforming the aspirations of countless Indians into reality, highlighting the tangible impact of his leadership.

Central to this campaign is the belief that the party's message resonates widely with the Indian populace. The BJP's statement, “The BJP firmly believes that this campaign slogan is not just a sentiment experienced by a few, but one that resonates with the masses,” underlines their conviction that the campaign theme strikes a chord across a diverse audience, far beyond a limited group.
The campaign effectively spotlights the NDA government's initiatives across various sectors. It sheds light on job creation efforts through support for startups and entrepreneurial loans, initiatives enabling farmers to access international markets, efforts towards increasing women's representation, and programs aimed at uplifting the poor. The underlying theme of the campaign is the guaranteed fulfillment of government promises, a testament to PM Modi's commitment to delivering results.
In the upcoming days, the BJP plans to expand its campaign outreach. A new song tailored for the election campaign will be released, complemented by a series of digital hoardings, display banners, and TV commercials. Each of these will focus on specific government schemes and achievements, illustrating how they have been successfully implemented under PM Modi's leadership.
Adding a personal touch to the campaign, Prime Minister Modi virtually addressed the Namo Navmatdata Sammelan. He emphasized how his government has led the country out of challenging times faced by the youth a decade ago. His message to India's young voters was clear and potent: their votes are crucial in shaping the country's future direction and approach. This direct appeal highlights the critical role of young voters in the democratic process and the future of the nation.

The recent event, a pivotal part of the BJP's campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, was organized by the party's youth wing, as reported by PTI. This gathering served as a platform for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to directly engage with the young generation of India, a demographic crucial to the future of the nation.
During the event, PM Modi emphasized the significant role of the youth in driving India's development over the next 25 years. He positioned the young generation as not just beneficiaries of the country's progress but as active contributors to its journey towards development.
In his address, PM Modi also took a pointed jab at the Opposition parties, critiquing their stance and approach towards the youth. He stated, “The mindset of leaders of these parties is anti-youth. You have to defeat these family parties with the strength of your votes.” This statement reflects a call to action for the youth, urging them to use their voting power to combat corruption and nepotism, or ‘parivarwaad’, in Indian politics.
PM Modi then contrasted the current state of India with the conditions that existed around 10-12 years ago. He highlighted a significant shift in the country's narrative, from one of despair to one of possibility and hope. “India is now talking of possibilities, which the generation before 2014 had given up hope on,” he said, underscoring the transformation that has taken place in recent years.
Further emphasizing this change, PM Modi pointed out that the news headlines in India have evolved from being dominated by corruption and scams to focusing on credibility and success stories. This shift, according to him, signifies a change in the country's direction and priorities.
Talking about the opportunities available to today's youth, PM Modi underscored the advancements in infrastructure and development measures like Digital India and the push to start-ups. He assured the youth of the nation, “This is Modi guarantees that your dreams are my resolve,” signaling his commitment to aligning government actions with the aspirations of the young population.

Why PM Modi Chose Bulandshahr to Hit the Campaign Trail for 2024 Lok Sabha Polls?
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, gearing up for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, initiated his campaign on January 25, aiming for a third consecutive term in power. Interestingly, he chose Bulandshahr in Western Uttar Pradesh as the starting point of his campaign trail. This decision has sparked curiosity and discussions, especially since Modi represents the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat from the eastern part of the state.
The choice of Bulandshahr, a relatively lesser-known town in Uttar Pradesh, has raised eyebrows and prompted analyses from political commentators. They are keenly trying to decipher the strategic reasoning behind this seemingly unconventional decision. The move is being scrutinized for its political implications and the message it sends, considering the PM's association with Varanasi, a prominent and symbolic constituency in eastern Uttar Pradesh.
In line with this campaign launch, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) released a statement outlining Modi's plans for the day. According to the PMO, the Prime Minister was set to unveil multiple development projects, with a staggering total worth of over $2.29 billion (approximately Rs 19,100 crore), on January 25. The PMO further elaborated, "The projects are related to several important sectors like rail, road, oil and gas, urban development, and housing." This announcement highlights the government's focus on comprehensive development across various critical sectors.
The selection of Bulandshahr for launching these significant projects and starting the election campaign suggests a strategic move by the Prime Minister. It symbolizes a broader outreach, potentially aiming to consolidate support in Western Uttar Pradesh, a region crucial in the political landscape. The move could also be seen as an effort to balance regional development and political representation, underlining the government's commitment to inclusive growth across different parts of Uttar Pradesh.

Modi’s Western UP Pivot
Western Uttar Pradesh, encompassing the Braj and Rohilkhand regions, holds a key position in Indian politics with its 29 Lok Sabha seats. This area is home to a historically significant population of Jats, Gurjars, and Muslims. The political fate of the region, and often the parties contesting, is strongly influenced by factors such as cane cultivation, caste dynamics, and communal polarisation.
Economically, Western Uttar Pradesh stands out as relatively more prosperous than other parts of the state, largely due to the success of the Green Revolution. This agricultural advancement has contributed to the region's robust economic growth rate, making it a focal point for political campaigns and policies.
Before the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls, there were notable political movements and efforts to sway the region. Union Home Minister Amit Shah made a concerted effort to woo the Rashtriya Lok Dal OBC chief Jayant Chaudhary, a prominent Jat leader from Western Uttar Pradesh. However, this attempt did not yield the desired results. Additionally, the BJP faced significant backlash during the farmers' protest in Delhi against the now-repealed farm laws, which garnered substantial support from the Khaps of Western Uttar Pradesh.
The political landscape of the region witnessed a shift in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Out of the 16 Lok Sabha seats that the BJP lost in Uttar Pradesh, seven were in Western UP. Notably, Saharanpur voted for BSP, which at the time was in alliance with the Samajwadi Party. This was a stark contrast to the 2014 elections, where the BJP won all seats in Western Uttar Pradesh except Mainpuri, Firozabad, Badaun, and Mainpuri.
The 2022 Assembly polls further highlighted the changing dynamics in the region. Despite the BJP's overall strong performance, the party could not prevent the SP-RLD alliance from making significant inroads in the Jat belt. The alliance secured 17 out of 27 seats in the Moradabad division, surpassing the BJP's 10, and won nine out of 16 seats in the Saharanpur region.

Need for a Fresh Outreach?
The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has been strategically focusing on connecting with various communities, especially in Western Uttar Pradesh. In an effort to resonate with the Jat community, the party recently emphasized the legacy of Charan Singh, a revered leader from the Jat community. This was symbolically marked by unveiling the tallest statue of Charan Singh. Accompanying this tribute, the Yogi Adityanath government declared a public holiday on December 23, Charan Singh's birth anniversary, further recognizing his significance and attempting to strengthen ties with the Jat community.

Understanding the Demography
In Western Uttar Pradesh, the Braj region holds a special place, not just politically but also in the cultural and religious landscape of India. It is revered by Hindus as it is believed to be the location of Lord Krishna’s early life. This religious and cultural significance adds a unique dimension to the region's political landscape, potentially influencing the electoral preferences and sentiments of the Hindu populace.
On the other hand, the Rohilkhand region, another part of Western Uttar Pradesh, has a substantial Muslim population, nearly reaching the half-way mark. This demographic factor makes the region particularly important for political parties like the Samajwadi Party, BSP, and the Congress, which traditionally have had strong support bases among Muslim voters. The high percentage of the Muslim population in this region indicates their potential influence on electoral outcomes and the political strategies employed by these parties.
The BJP's attempts to engage with different communities through symbolic gestures like the unveiling of Charan Singh's statue, along with understanding the diverse demographics of regions like Braj and Rohilkhand, demonstrate a multi-faceted approach to political campaigning. These efforts reflect the party's recognition of the complex social fabric of Western Uttar Pradesh and its significance in shaping the political narrative for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. This blend of cultural, religious, and community-based outreach highlights the nuanced strategies political parties employ to connect with voters in this key electoral battleground.
